Bed Bug Prep Sheet

Pre-Treatment Instructions
for Bed Bug Treatment

1. Declutter the Home:

  • Remove all items stored in closets, drawers, under beds, or in/on furniture, and seal them in new, heavy-duty plastic bags.

  • Do not place items back into the home until the initial treatment is complete.

  • Important: Inspect all items for signs of bed bug activity before returning them to the home.

Discard the following:

  • Cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, paper & plastic bags, old newspapers, magazines, and similar items in rooms to be treated.

  • All discarded items must be wrapped in plastic before removal.

2. Launder and Disinfect Household Items:

  • Remove all clothing, sheets, bedding, stored linens, curtains, and any other launderable items.

  • Seal these items in plastic bags and either:

    • Machine wash with hot water and dry on high heat.

    • Place directly in the dryer OR have professionally dry cleaned.

  • Note: If dry cleaning, inform the cleaners that the items may be potentially infested to prevent pest migration.

  • Remove all bed linens, bed skirts, and mattress/box spring covers, except for bed bug encasements.

  • Discard any used plastic bags and replace them with new, sealed plastic bags.

All items should be in sealed bags when the Diegel Pest Solutions professional arrives. These bags can be placed in a bathroom or kitchen in preparation for treatment. Do not return these items until after treatment, and inspect them visually for any signs of bed bug activity.

3. Vacuuming:

  • Vacuum your home thoroughly each day, focusing on the edges where the flooring meets the walls.

  • After vacuuming, immediately dispose of the vacuum contents in a sealed plastic bag, and dispose of it outside the home.

  • For extra precaution, rinse the vacuum canister with hot water.

  • Post-treatment: Continue to vacuum any live or dead bed bugs or eggs and dispose of them as directed.

4. Remove Wall-Mounted Items:

  • Take down all items attached to the walls, including pictures, artwork, headboards, shelves, and other decorations.

  • Do not replace these items until after treatment and inspection for bed bug activity.

Food Safety:

  • Store all open food containers in the refrigerator if possible.

  • If refrigeration isn’t an option, seal food in containers or plastic bags and move them out of the treatment area.

5. Handling Heavily Infested Items:

  • Mattresses, box springs, upholstered furniture, or other items may need to be disposed of if heavily infested.

  • Important: To prevent the spread of bed bugs, fully wrap and label these items as contaminated or destroy them so others do not unknowingly bring them into their homes.

  • Note: Do not bring in used furniture unless it is new.

6. Post-Treatment Monitoring:

  • After the treatment, it’s normal to see bed bugs and potentially experience bites as part of the bed bug life cycle.

  • Recommendation: Keep a log of any bed bug activity you observe, noting the location and contacting Diegel Pest Solutions at (419-308-2975) during the 30-day guarantee period.

Failure to follow these instructions may void your guarantee.

Thank you for trusting Diegel Pest Solutions. We appreciate your cooperation in making sure we provide the best possible service to eliminate bed bugs from your home.
